Water Cooler Topics – Charlie GuarinoWith our industry changing so fast you never know what’s current and what’s not. This session will discuss a variety of topics, all relevant to our community as IT professionals. But you won’t just sit there passively. Like any water cooler discussion, you’ll be asked to participate with your own opinions on current topics. You can expect the actual topics to be very timely and career-worthy, so the next time you’re at your own water cooler you’ll sound like a pro!

The Low-code / No-code Movement – Alex Roytman - It used to be that we measured programmers’ productivity by counting lines of code. Yet, in a recent interview, Elon Musk declared that the best developers accomplish their goals with as little code as possible. Having less code certainly does increase flexibility and reduces technical debt! But how do you get things done by writing less code rather than more? In this session, we’ll explore the new Low-code / No-code movement and why the idea of writing less code might just make sense for your IT environment.

Visual Studio Code and IBM i – Liam Allan

What is in your toolbox? – Jorge SanguinettiJorge will share his experience learning other technologies (Node.js, Javascript, TypeScript, Angular, React, MongoDB, Laravel, Lumen, Adonis, Express.. etc) and trying to relate them into his daily work on IBM i. Jorge believes these technologies bring a different mindset to face your work.

Liam Allan, IBM Champion and consultant with Seiden Group, helps IBM i development teams transform their applications and bridge the gap between traditional and modern development practices. He specializes in DevOps, RPG, ILE, Node.js, PHP, PASE and open source.  Founder of Works of Barry, he also supports the community by creating open source tools—such as the ILEditor and NetRPG—that make IBM i development more intuitive for the next generation. He also co-hosts the IBM Bi-Weekly technical podcast.

Liam’s passion for bringing IBM i and the world of open source closer together has earned him two COMMON Innovation Awards. After joining the Club Seiden open source community in 2015, he quickly earned high standing among the IBM i development community. In early 2016, COMMON named him recipient of the Student Innovation Award, and he found himself on the speaking circuit teaching audiences his techniques for integrating open source with RPG. IBM further honored his work by naming him a “Fresh Face of IBM i” and, soon after, an IBM Champion. Most recently, COMMON presented him with the 2019 Innovation Award for his work on barryCI.  LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/worksofbarry  Twitter: @notesofbarry
